35 pieces per design, that makes it 70! All GONE!

Thematic Book Display - What the Zeus?

It was time to change the display poster and since the official one wasn't in yet, I decided to make a fresh one (instead of re-printing the old posters).

Our fairy tale section is seeing a lack of movement so having this theme gives us the opportunity to display the books for the kids.

I'm supremely pleased to see it being well received! The display table needs to be constantly replenished. I'm not sure whether the books were being browsed and left aside or borrowed back. But at the very least, they have been introduced to the public and people are taking the books.

I know certain groups may have issues with myths as they involve other Gods, deities and well 'magic' in general. But I believe that everyone needs a little golden fleece.

Broaden the mind. Expand your knowledge. It never hurts to add a dose of imagination in your life. That's how the best stories were written, ain't it?

Rhyming Rules

Fun With Tots gave me this idea for a poster.

It's catchy, straight to the point with a mild hint of sarcasm. To target at teens who seem to love crowding about the Children's Section, sitting in kiddie chairs and chatting away.

Yet you don't see them being that audacious on Level 2 (adult section).

Are J librarians more shy and afraid of confrontation?

Pre-CAD 2010

Colouring Contest for Customer Appreciation Day 2010


Template A: for children aged 4 - 6 years old only


Template B: for children aged 7 - 9 years old only

I always like to doodle and when I was put in charge of this item, I figured it would be fun to draw silly stuff for the children to colour.

I didn't want to print those free templates from the website as I already had an idea in mind. Space for the young ones, circus theme for the older kids. The pre-drawn pictures online were too restrictive so I referred to some graphics via Google and whipped up my own style on the drawing block.

So two separate categories to be redeemed with a loan receipt of 4 books. Only 35 sheets per template but if the response is good, we shall photostat more. Hopefully, patrons will participate enthusiastically.

I like the space one personally. On hindsight, I could have done a better job for the circus. Seems a little lacking to me.. but overall, very happy that the drawings were accepted and the contest was launched without a hiccup.

An FOL then, an FOL now

Yep, I was a Friend of The Library volunteering for various ad-hoc events. Now that I'm innit, this account is a little moot. I get to call FOLs to help me now!

Though technically, I'm still a Friend. Get it? *nudge* No?

ER J Fun Bowl 2010

Gathering #2 for the year:

Hello folks, yes, this is Outing #2 and we attempted to do bowling again! This time, we managed to get more pple to join and the bowling NEARLY did not surface. *wipes brow*

Attendees: Ms 1, Ms 2, Ms 5 + Asher, Ms PS (ex-Ms 5), Ms 7, Ms 8, Ms 13 & Mr 12 [nobody was on night :D]

Wanted to come: Ms Ref was ill ... Ms 10's son was ill...Ms 6 was still doing report when we left office :(

After sending out the invitation and getting a nice handful of participants, the org team decided to book the lanes 1 week in advance. Kallang was the ideal spot but there was a company event. Marina Square had a tournament, Safra was down for renovation AND the lady at Downtown East said the lanes were booked for Aug & Sept (what rubbish).

So disappointing! We planned to forgo the bowling and just munch at the Changi Airport. Ms 8 came to the rescue after her source said that it wasn't fully booked.. just no advance booking over the phone. Hey, that's a big difference la !

So we took a gamble and decided to just try our luck at Orchid Bowl (downtown east). Ms 8 and 13 arrived first and the Lane Lady gave them attitude -- or rather she.talked.like.this.

Anyhoo, Ms 8 wasn't feeling well, so we ate at Magic Wok first. Ms 13 was under the weather too. Ms 5 came with her cute boy and some of us, after eating, went to the centre again to try booking. Ms 7 was activated because she wore an 'I AM EVIL' t-shirt. Rather apt, eh?

Ms 8 was supposed to go back home to rest after dinner, but somehow her battery recharged upon entering the bowling alley *ding ding* and she wanted to play 1 round only. (in the end, all of us just played 1x)

Ms 13 said she was bad and she was striking left and right. Mr 12 looked stressed out with the game. Ms 7 had a dainty way of playing. Ms PS had something against the lane and Ms 2 was really pro.

We all had fun giggling and cheering. And Ms 1 could do something that Ms 2 could not. Get 2 gutter balls in a row. Ha!

The outing ended about 9++pm. I (we) had a lovely time and it was the company that made it good.
