One Learning Hour

On 13th Dec, I conducted my very first One Learning Hour at TRL - Paper Cutting!

I found this book on Amazon and finally got my hands on it. It's a wonderful book that teaches you the different folds and the patterns that go with it.

We did 3 different cuts - row of hearts, snowman and a heart-snowflake

J Special - Pokemon Origami Puppet

Thank you Hafsah for giving me this idea of conducting a Pokemon J special. She did a Pikachu for her Century Square Stories & Craft session and the craft was so cute, I expanded on it.

This J Special was meant for older children and there were 4 puppets to be made overall - Pikachu, Meowth, Salamence (big hit with the boys) and Nidoran.

Isabel, ex-J, helped me preparing the craft materials (as part of her PDKRA). It was very fun conducting the craft session and it was a good coincidence that Tampines Mall had a Pokemon event going on as well.

Chinese Ink Painting

It was announced that those in PLS will get a chance to attend a team-building course of their choice from a given list and there were a number of popular ones like baking, chocolate and ice cream making.

Me? My top 2 (we had to choose 2 for 'backup') were Chinese Ink Painting and Tea Appreciation! I was so excited when I saw CIP was one of the choices and put my name down immediately.

It was an even bigger surprise when the final class list had familiar names in it. The location was at Marine Parade Library and the class spent a wonderful few hours learning 4 different art pieces and drawing our very own.

And there you go, my 'masterpieces'! It was a wonderful team-building course and I had a lot of fun interacting with my fellow librarians and pretending to be brush-wielding painter from ancient China. Hahaha !

TRL 16th Anniversary

Happy Birthday TRL !

I'm in the organising committee and we had a range of programmes lined-up for the week. I helped out in the first activity - Arty Crafty with a fellow AYP Librarian.

We also had a colouring contest for the kids. These are the winners of the individual templates (I drew the picture).

On the actual day, 4th December 2010, there were balloons galore and many fun activities happening like henna painting, games carnival, balloon sculpting and a wonderful cake cutting session.

This is a cardboard cutout designed by me. For the kids to peek their heads through and be a pirate! Yarr!

It was a tiring day but fun-filled nevertheless!

Walk For Rice 2010

On 22 Nov 2010, we had a Walk For Rice charity event. We were split into different groups and the route started from the NL Building.

8.30am and off we went! It was rather hot but I had company and spent the time chatting with my friends. Frequent water breaks, along with the wind and some shade, made the blistering morning sun bearable.

Some beautiful sights were captured along the walk and if it wasn't for this route, I probably would never have gone to those spots.

All in all, it was a satisfactory morning exercise with a bunch of goodness thrown in.

Dinner & Dance 2010

I'm in the Committee for NLB Dinner & Dance 2010. It was held at Orchard Hotel, on 22nd October. The turn-out was good and most were in costumes -- very rad!

Our theme was "Fabulous 4G" aka Fabulous 4 Generations. Come dress in any fashion you want, from the baby boomers to the Gen Y. And there were staff decked out in Grease days, retro, hippie, emo... etc !

The event went smoothly and the MC was spectacular. We short-listed a few event companies but Planet Events stood out. Very glad we chose them to run this show for us :)

Yours truly, was in charge of a Lady Gaga dance segment and it was hell finding dancers and scheduling rehearsals but we managed well. Hehehe.. I cajoled two fellow ER Js to join this item and I'm grateful for their help *smooch*

It was nerve-wrecking to boogie on stage but we all had fun and what's more important was the appreciative crowd. Crowd happy = committee happy

Being in the committee, I made extra effort to be 'in the theme'. So with a few other Comm Members, we went to No. 1 Costume shop and rented some outfits. Since the white wig was part of the LGG assemble, I decided to match my funky hairdo with a glaring robe and a pair of Lennon shades (bought 'em).

Thus, I spent the rest of the night being a giant butterfly.
