Mother's Day, 14 May 2011

Hello folks!

In April 2011, a team was put together to look at how we can increase TRL's loans through programmes and promotions. Yours truly is part of the team and we brainstormed all the events in advance.

The plan was to have an event happening once per month and we tried to coincide it to a festive occasion or a celebrated holiday. A typical event runs from 10am - 4pm and there will be art booths in the foyer, J specials and crafts conducted by librarians, talks in the auditorium and redeemable goodies (made by our Wishers Aunties).

Top 3 prizes up for grabs for the Tribute to Mummy contest. The tribute can come in the form of a craft, poem, story, pictures... anything!

The event went well and our readers had loads of fun :)

One Learning Hour

On 13th Dec, I conducted my very first One Learning Hour at TRL - Paper Cutting!

I found this book on Amazon and finally got my hands on it. It's a wonderful book that teaches you the different folds and the patterns that go with it.

We did 3 different cuts - row of hearts, snowman and a heart-snowflake

TRL 16th Anniversary

Happy Birthday TRL !

I'm in the organising committee and we had a range of programmes lined-up for the week. I helped out in the first activity - Arty Crafty with a fellow AYP Librarian.

We also had a colouring contest for the kids. These are the winners of the individual templates (I drew the picture).

On the actual day, 4th December 2010, there were balloons galore and many fun activities happening like henna painting, games carnival, balloon sculpting and a wonderful cake cutting session.

This is a cardboard cutout designed by me. For the kids to peek their heads through and be a pirate! Yarr!

It was a tiring day but fun-filled nevertheless!

Children's Day Fiesta 2010

TRL J Librarians came together to celebrate Children's Day at the library. We kicked off the day with free balloons give-away.

Kids LOVE balloons.

We opened up the PlayHouse to set up the Games Carnival and we had a special theme-park wristband idea going. The child will get to wear a band to play the game stations. The square boxes represent each station. Win a token if you clear 2 or more stations!

In addition, we had temporary tattoos and this young lady won a special voucher courtesy of Century Square, for clearing all 4 stations :)


After playing the games, the kid can have a nice bonding time with the parent at the party-hat area. You do not need a loan receipt for this. So it's good for toddlers who are too young to play the carnival games.

While the carnival is happening, we had two J Specials: colorful bubbles for the younger children and a rainforest adventure for the older ones.

The day went smoothly. It was very tiring but all in all, the kids had fun and that's the most important.

A little space frame I did for TRL Anniversary 2009. A quick repair and it's good as new =)


End of the day: exhausted but happy!
It went very well and our CAD was packed full of colours, balloons and events for both the young and old.
